A Webmaster For Hire

Creating a successful website

How can we make a successful website? First let's begin by defining what a successful website is. By all measures, we can all agree that a successful website is one that; a) attracts visitors b) brings visitors back again and again.

Using the above definition here are some tips that will help your website reach and keep visitors.

1) Avoid using Welcome messages

These messages are unnecessary and are a waste of valuable web-estate. Avoid the practice and instead focus on your visitor's needs or their reason to visit your site.

2) Avoid useless enter pages

The old practice of using enter pages is as medieval as leeches are to modern medicine. Their purpose is to waste money, time and resources. Avoid this outdated practice, and instead use your index page as a showroom for your website.

3) Avoid tacky counters

You no doubt has seen websites with cute little counters on the bottom. Perhaps you have been tempted to place one of these dinosaurs on your site too. But, please, please avoid this. First of all, none of your visitors care how many people visited your site. Second, not only are they useless but they are downright tacky.

4) Avoid too much humor

While humor can be useful, too much humor on a website will tend to drive traffic away. Unless your website is a comedy site, avoid excessive humor.

5) Avoid excessive flash or multimedia files

We all like a nice looking website, but few of us have the patience to deal with long downloads, and annoying popup windows asking us to install this plug-in or that plug-in. Think about the last time you visited a site and encountered this situation. Where you suspicions? Did you not enjoy getting those popup windows? Most people would say 'Yes'; unless it was their own website. So, why should you want to upset your visitors?

In summary, if you focus on the fundamentals and follow our tips, you will end up with a website that is visitor friendly, and appealing. Need help with a website? Contact us and let us help you design a website that gets your message across.
