A Webmaster For Hire

Testing your webpage's load time

Anytime you design a webpage it is a good practice to see how quickly the page loads. Here is a quick and inexpensive way to test your web page's load time.

  • Set the site that you want to test as the default home page for your browser.
  • Browse to a site other than the one you are testing.
If you are still on the test site when you clear your cache, the site refreshes after you clear the cache, reloading the files that you want to clear.
  • Clear the cache of all files by doing the following:
    1) On the Tools menu of IE, click Internet Options.
    2) On the General tab, under History, click Clear History.
  • Close your browser.
  • Open your browser to the test site (your new home page).

This test will give you an idea of how fast a website will load in a similar computer to yours. It is advisable that you check your web pages at different speeds and with different operating systems. You can easily do this if you have several computers at home with different OS systems and resources, or you can try it at a friend's pc.
